Painting Day, 2 PM to 6 PM

An open invitation for children above 5 to wield the brush and crayon! Bring your brushes and crayons. We will provide paper and paint.

Lavanasuravadham (Story of Lava-Kusha) in Kathakali

Manipravalam with English subtitles, 90 mins

Kathakali comes to Ranga Shankara for the first time. The celebrated Kathakali doyen, Sri Sadanam Balakrishnan plays Hanuman and Leela Samson plays Sita in this episode on "Lava-Kusha".

"Lavanasuravadham" is considered to be the most popular among the 400 odd classic "Aaatta Kathas" (plots for Kathakali). The handling of emotions when Hanuman meets Sita in the ashram of Sage Valmiki is a highlight of "Lavanasuravadham". The performance is embellished by resplendent costumes, intricate make-up, live singing, and the musical instruments Chanda and Maddalam.

Troupe: Indo-Korean Children's Theatre production co-commissioned by InKo Centre and Theatre Seoul

Heungbu – Nolbu is the story of two brothers. Heungbu is good and kind and willing to share what he has. Nolbu, is his opposite: mean minded and miserly. They are watched over by goblins that find the mean minded brother's behaviour completely despicable and decide to punish him, even while they reward the kind hearted brother. The play is based on a Korean folk tale which echoes in every culture.

The Indo-Korean troupe of children was specially chosen and trained for this production. The play premiered in Korea recently and won critical praise. The Director Kevin Kim paints Korea on stage – resplendent traditional costumes, musical instruments and the very Korean way of perfection!

In another first, live painting comes to Ranga Shankara in a play. This popular production from Germany uses live music, dance and painting in a tale that captures the imagination of children. Forests dark and vibrant, giant mountains, desert, the North Pole, and a giant whale come alive on stage through live painting sessions and extraordinary acting!

Mimmi and Brumm are Having a Party (for children above 3 years)

Mimmi is a mouse, Brumm is a bear. They are so tiny that they can live in a book. When the puppeteer knocks on the book's cover, the mouse comes out and the bear follows. Girl mouse and boy bear want to have a party to celebrate today: there is so much to do.
Margrit Gysin, the Grande Dame of Swiss puppeteers, tells and performs a story based on the picture book by Gabrielle Vincent and directed by Enrico Beeler. Margrit creates mountains out of pebbles, the big from the small, leaving children engrossed and completely enthralled.

Launch of Ranga Shankara's Storytelling programme – The Little Cloud

Schedule for both days:
3:30 PM – Kapila Venu, India – Kutiyattam (10 years and above)
Kutiyattam is a 2000 year old art form of India declared a World Heritage by UNESCO. The young Kapila Venu tells the story of an episode in the life of young Lord Krishna. Accompanied by Mizhavu and Idakka, two traditional drums of Kerala, Kapila breathes life into the characters she plays. She is heralded as the next big phenomenon in Indian performing arts.

5:30 PM – Vayu Naidu, UK (6 to 12 years)
Meet a fabled cast of beasts and hear their boasts. See how monkey and crocodile became friends, and how peacock became the king of the jungle. You can also become part of a new story. Let Vayu Naidu take you on a journey, with wonder and imagination as your guide.

Vayu discovered Storytelling by the sea in India. After studying and living in England she began the Vayu Naidu Company, to showcase storytelling which mixed words, music and dance.

6:30 PM – Padmavati Rao, India (6 to 10 years)
Padmavati Rao or Pinty Akka as children of Bangalore know her takes the stage to perform an almost never heard before folk tale of India in her unique and enchanting style!
The story is a journey through a landscape that will be experienced through its telling and the creative imagination it makes possible, just as all those stories did, when we heard them from dear ones a long time ago or not so very long ago.

7:30 PM – Stefo Nantsou, Australia (5 years and above)
Stefo Nantsou is perhaps the best known performer for the young in Australia and abroad. He takes the children on a fast-paced journey of a "Loaded Dog" – a dog with a piece of something dangerous in its mouth!
